A bounce contact refers to a contact that has failed to receive an email due to various reasons, such as an invalid email address, an inactive address, or a recipient server issue. Properly managing bounce contacts is crucial for maintaining sender reputation and improving the effectiveness of email campaigns.

Steps to Manage Bounce Contacts

  1. Identify Bounce Contacts

    • Use email campaign reports to identify bounce contacts. In the report, you will see failed deliveries (bounces) and the reasons for those failures.

    • There are two common types of bounces:

      • Hard Bounce: This contact will never receive emails due to reasons like an invalid address. Hard bounces should generally be removed from the contact list promptly.

      • Soft Bounce: This contact experienced a temporary issue, like a full inbox. This contact can be retained for future emails, but if bouncing persists, they should be removed.

  2. Remove or Suspend Hard Bounce Contacts

    • Contacts with a hard bounce status should be removed or marked as inactive in the Contact Book to prevent further attempts that could damage domain and IP reputation.

    • Steps:

      • Select contacts with a hard bounce status.

      • Use the option to deactivate or delete these contacts from the Contact Book.

  3. Monitor and Follow Up with Soft Bounce Contacts

For contacts experiencing soft bounces, attempt to resend emails in future campaigns but continue to monitor bounce status. If the bounce issue persists after several attempts, transfer these contacts to an inactive list or delete them from the Contact Book.
