Segmentation in MTARGET helps you categorize contacts based on specific criteria, enabling targeted campaigns and better audience management. Here's how to make the most of this feature:

Understand Contact Status

Segment contacts based on their status to prioritize your actions effectively:

Active: These contacts engage with your emails; prioritize them for marketing.

Pending: Contacts who haven’t confirmed subscription; consider follow-up actions.

Unsubscribed: Respect their preference; exclude them from campaigns.

Hard Bounce: Ensure these addresses are cleaned to maintain your sender reputation.

Use Filters for Precision

Filters allow you to narrow down contacts based on specific attributes:

  • By Field

    • Example: Find all contacts located in "Jakarta". Use the Contain or Match filter on the City field with the value "Jakarta".

  • By Label:

    • Example: Identify contacts tagged as "VIP" or "Frequent Buyers". Use the Contain option on the Label filter with "VIP" or "Frequent Buyers".

Create Meaningful Segments

Steps to create a segment:

  1. Go to Segment menu.

  2. Click Add Segment button.

  3. Define filters (e.g., Field: "Last Purchase > 30 Days").

  4. Save the segment with a descriptive name like Inactive Buyers > 30 Days.

Update and Optimize Segments

  • Edit Existing Segments: Modify criteria as your contact database evolves.

  • Analyze Segment Performance: Export segment data to review and refine your targeting.

Best Practices for Segmentation

  • Be Specific: Avoid overly broad criteria; focus on actionable groups.

  • Combine Filters: Use multiple filters (e.g., Label + Status) for deeper insights.

  • Test and Iterate: Run campaigns for smaller segments to measure impact before scaling.

Advanced Tip: Dynamic Segments

Utilize dynamic segmentation by integrating automation workflows to adjust segments based on real-time user actions (e.g., adding labels or updating fields automatically).

Visual Aid (Optional)

Include screenshots or GIFs showing how to:

  • Create a new segment.

  • Apply filters.

  • Analyze segment performance.

Conclusion

By leveraging MTARGET’s segmentation effectively, you can improve campaign relevance, increase engagement rates, and streamline audience management.
