If you're facing issues while importing contacts into our system, don't worry! This guide will help you understand the main reasons why contact imports can fail and what you can do to fix them.

Several requirements must be met for a successful contact import. Import failures usually occur when these requirements aren't fulfilled properly.

Common Reasons and Solutions for Failed Contact Imports

1. Check the File Type You're Uploading

It's crucial to ensure that the file you're uploading is in the correct format. The supported file formats for contact imports are:

  • CSV Format (Recommended) – Windows users should select CSV (Comma Delimited), while macOS users should choose CSV (Comma Separated Values).

  • XLS Format – While Excel (*.xls) files are also accepted, note that the number of contacts that can be imported at once is smaller compared to CSV files.

Important Note:

Our system does not support (.csv) files from Google Contacts. If you attempt to upload a CSV file from Google Contacts, our system will show an error message, and the file won't be imported correctly.

To resolve this, we recommend adjusting the Google Contacts CSV format to match the required template that can be downloaded from our system. Ensure that the file matches the given structure before uploading.

2. File Size and Contact Limitations

The file you're uploading must also adhere to contact count limits and file size restrictions:

  • For CSV files, the maximum is 20.000 total contacts with a file size not exceeding 5MB.

  • For XLS files, the maximum is 10.000 total contacts and 2MB in size.

If your file exceeds these limits, our system won't be able to process it. Make sure to split the file into smaller parts if the contact count or file size is above the allowed threshold.

3. Mandatory Fields

Ensure that your upload file contains the required fields. There are two key fields that must always be included in every file you upload:

  • Email Address (Required)

This field must contain your subscriber's email address. Without a valid email address, the system cannot add the contact to the list.

  • First Name (Required)

This field records the contact's first name. Every contact must have a first name along with an email address.

If either of these mandatory fields is missing, the contact import will fail. Please make sure these fields are included for the system to process your contacts properly.

4. Adjusting CSV Files from Google Contacts

If you're importing contacts from Google Contacts or another external source, you might need to adjust the file to our system's format. Google Contacts' CSV format may not fully align with our requirements. Therefore, it's highly recommended to modify the CSV file according to the provided template, available for download from our system.
