With the Text Accordion feature—one of our first interactive AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) components—you can present large amounts of information in a neatly organized way without overwhelming recipients’ inboxes with endless scrolling.

Text Accordion allows you to create content sections that can be expanded and collapsed, providing a more interactive and controlled reading experience for your email recipients.

What is Text Accordion?

Text Accordion is an AMP component designed to manage and display content in expandable/collapsible segments. It is ideal for emails that contain large amounts of text, long lists of questions, or detailed information that doesn’t need to be shown all at once.

Imagine:

Instead of showing a long FAQ list that fills the screen, you can present each question as a clickable header. When the recipient clicks on a question, the answer “appears” below it. Multiple sections can be opened at once, and previously opened sections will remain expanded unless manually closed.

Why Use Text Accordion in Your Email?

Integrating Text Accordion into your email brings several benefits:

  • Save Space & Maintain Clean Layout
Display extensive content without making the email look cluttered or too long, keeping the layout neat and easy to navigate.

  • Increase Customer Engagement
Encourages active interaction from recipients who must click to reveal information, making them feel more engaged with your content.

  • Controlled Reading Experience
Recipients can choose which information they want to dive into, creating a more personal and efficient reading flow.

  • Structured Information Presentation
Perfect for content that can be divided into subsections or a Q&A format.

Example Use Cases of Text Accordion

The Text Accordion component is highly versatile and can be applied to various email marketing scenarios:

  • FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
The most common and effective use case. Present questions as accordion headers and answers as expandable content.

  • Product/Service Details
Show a product summary, then use accordions for “Technical Specs,” “Full Features,” “How It Works,” or “Testimonials.”

  • Terms & Conditions
Break down long terms into easy-to-access, searchable sections.

  • Table of Contents for Long Newsletters
If your newsletter has multiple sections or articles, use accordions as a clickable table of contents.

  • Report or Survey Summaries
Present key points concisely, with options to expand sections for data or detailed insights.

  • Step-by-Step Instructions
For instructional emails, each step can be an accordion section that recipients expand one by one.

How to Create a Text Accordion in MTARGET

We’ve designed MTARGET’s interface to make building Text Accordions intuitive:

  1. Choose Component

Drag and drop the “Text Accordion” component into your email editor canvas.

  2. Add Sections

Insert as many accordion sections as you need.

  3. Edit Content

Add a title for each accordion header and input content into the body section.

  4. Design Fallback

Ensure you design the HTML fallback version of your accordion content. The fallback will display all text fully (without expand/collapse). This guarantees recipients without AMP support still receive complete, well-presented information.

The Importance of HTML Fallback for Your Text Accordion

As we always emphasize, fallback design is key. For the Text Accordion component, recipients who cannot render AMP emails will instead see the HTML fallback version.

  • If the Fallback is Well-Designed

The content will appear in a clean, readable format—such as a standard text list or with links to more details on your website.

  • If No Fallback is Designed (System Default)

Recipients may see an unoptimized layout, where all text is shown in a continuous block without accordion structure, or even misaligned with your branding.

We strongly recommend always designing the fallback for Text Accordion to be both informative and visually appealing, ensuring a consistent experience for all your audiences.
